Common POC Questions and Answers

Technical Questions

"How does this scale?"

Answer: "Kubernetes provides automatic scaling capabilities. We can scale horizontally by adding nodes, and vertically by adjusting resource requests. For workflows, Argo Workflows can run hundreds of parallel tasks. In production, we'd configure auto-scaling based on workload."

Follow-up:

  • Show auto-scaling configuration
  • Discuss scaling strategies
  • Address cost implications

"What about security?"

Answer: "We follow security best practices: network policies for isolation, RBAC for access control, secrets management, and encrypted communication. We can integrate with your existing security tools and policies."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss specific security requirements
  • Show security configurations
  • Address compliance concerns

"How do we integrate with our systems?"

Answer: "Integration depends on your systems. Common patterns include: API integration, database connectivity, authentication systems (OAuth, SAML), and message queues. We can work with your team to design the integration approach."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss specific systems
  • Review integration patterns
  • Plan integration approach

"What's the deployment process?"

Answer: "Deployment is automated using Terraform and Helm. The process is: 1) Configure variables, 2) Run Terraform to create infrastructure, 3) Deploy applications with Helm, 4) Verify deployment. This can be integrated into your CI/CD pipeline."

Follow-up:

  • Show deployment scripts
  • Discuss CI/CD integration
  • Address deployment concerns

"How do we monitor this?"

Answer: "Kubernetes provides built-in monitoring, and we can integrate with Prometheus, Grafana, or your existing monitoring tools. We can set up dashboards for workflows, cluster health, and application metrics."

Follow-up:

  • Show monitoring setup
  • Discuss alerting
  • Address monitoring requirements

Business Questions

"What's the cost?"

Answer: "For the POC, we're using minimal resources - about $X per day. Production costs depend on scale and requirements. We can provide a cost estimate based on your expected workload."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss cost optimization
  • Review pricing models
  • Address budget concerns

"How long to production?"

Answer: "Timeline depends on requirements and integration complexity. Typically: 2-4 weeks for basic deployment, 4-8 weeks for full integration, depending on your specific needs."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss timeline factors
  • Review milestones
  • Address urgency

"What support do you provide?"

Answer: "We provide [support level] during implementation and [ongoing support]. This includes deployment assistance, troubleshooting, training, and documentation."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss support levels
  • Review SLAs
  • Address support concerns

"What if we need to change something?"

Answer: "The infrastructure is defined as code, so changes are straightforward. We can modify configurations, add features, or adjust architecture based on your needs."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss change process
  • Review change management
  • Address flexibility

Operational Questions

"Who manages this?"

Answer: "During implementation, we work with your team. For ongoing operations, you can manage it with your existing team, or we can provide managed services. We'll provide training and documentation."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss team structure
  • Review training needs
  • Address operational model

"What happens if something breaks?"

Answer: "We have monitoring and alerting in place. For critical issues, we have [response process]. We also provide runbooks and troubleshooting guides."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss incident response
  • Review escalation process
  • Address reliability concerns

"How do we back this up?"

Answer: "Backup strategy depends on your requirements. We can implement: workflow state backups, configuration backups, and data backups. We can integrate with your existing backup systems."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss backup requirements
  • Review backup strategies
  • Address recovery concerns

"Can we customize this?"

Answer: "Absolutely. Everything is configurable - workflows, infrastructure, integrations. We can customize to match your specific requirements and processes."

Follow-up:

  • Discuss customization options
  • Review customization process
  • Address specific needs

Handling Difficult Questions

"Why not use [alternative solution]?"

Response Strategy:

  1. Acknowledge the alternative
  2. Explain why this solution fits their needs
  3. Compare key differences
  4. Focus on their specific requirements

Example: "That's a good alternative. Here's why this approach fits your needs: [specific reasons]. The key difference is [difference]. Given your requirement for [their need], this solution provides [benefit]."

"This seems too complex."

Response Strategy:

  1. Acknowledge the concern
  2. Simplify the explanation
  3. Show the value
  4. Address complexity concerns

Example: "I understand that concern. Let me break it down: [simplified explanation]. The complexity gives you [benefit]. We handle the complexity so you can focus on [their value]."

"We don't have Kubernetes expertise."

Response Strategy:

  1. Acknowledge the gap
  2. Offer training/support
  3. Show managed options
  4. Address learning curve

Example: "That's a common concern. We provide comprehensive training and documentation. Many teams get productive within [timeframe]. We also offer managed services if you prefer."

"What if this doesn't work?"

Response Strategy:

  1. Acknowledge the risk
  2. Show success factors
  3. Discuss mitigation
  4. Address concerns

Example: "That's why we do a POC first - to validate it works in your environment. We've seen success with [similar customers]. We'll work closely with your team to ensure success."

Questions to Ask Them

To Understand Requirements

  • "What's your primary use case?"
  • "What are your biggest pain points?"
